1. Is my oscar male or female

2. Is it normal for my oscar and convict to both be digging pits at opposite sides of my 125 gallon tank

It is normal for cichlids to dig, they are establishing their territory. They may not like each other, and want to be on opposite sides of the tank.
Sexing oscars from a glance is tricky, can you get a photo of the vent?

Well it is weird because neither of them did it before. They only started today and yesterday I made a massive landscape change so I don't know if that may have triggered it.

Also getting a picture of the vent won't be possible as the oscar runs the second I bring out my phone

Vent picture typically requires you to remove the oscar and flip it upside down. You may be able to force the genitalia of the male partially out by feeding until it stops eating, basically super full for the oscar.

I did not know the sex of my oscar until one morning I woke up and she had layed eggs on her favorite rock. She typically would move everything around the tank a week or so before. 20190903_091819.jpgIt's very interesting to watch their spawning ritual.
