1. Is there any DIY way to spread out the return so that it's not as forceful?

2. What is the best way to really make your water crystal clear? I have an AquaClear 70, would putting a piece of filter floss at the bottom before the sponge make a difference?

Thanks!

putting fillter floss at the bottom of the filter wouldnt be a great idea because it would clog fast and you would have to tear the whole filter apart to change it. unless you dont mind doing that. if you using bio-max in it, the type that comes in bags, i would put it right under that. that way you only have to lift the bag of bio-max up to change the floss.

personally i would just use the sponge it comes with and the rest with bio-max.

if you want less flow, just turn down the filter. the ac70 has a knob on the intake that slides over to reduce the flow.

I take out the entire basket and rinse it every time i do a weekly water change.

And, if I turn down the filter, it will cycle less water. I still want it to cycle the most GPH, but just give out gentler (or more spread out flow)

I have seen people cut a piece of soda bottle and put the curl under the outflow to break up the surface agitation for betta tanks
