My friend and I have caught two painter turtles that we now keep in seperate ten gallon tanks. There is a guy and a girl, Bruno and Sheik, and we are eventually hoping to breed them. They are both only about the size of an Oreo but very aggresive with eachother.

Male turtles have an arch on the bottom their shell while females don't

Even so, it's still too early to tell for sure. Wait until they're older; a male will have really long front claws.

:eek3: U DONT KNO WAT AN OREO IS?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!??!?!??!?!
:eek3: :eek3: :eek3: :eek3: :eek3: :banhim: :eek3: :eek3:

If you caught them both in the same area there is a good chance that they are realated. This means that breading would not be a good idea.

ehhh...It's probably not going to cause problems. The rate of genetic abnormalities in the offspring of closely related parents isn't significantly higher than in the offspring of nonrelated parents. Your turtles' parents were probably related as well. I don't think turtles haul out, find other ponds to breed in with unrelated turtles, then go back to their own ponds.
