My wife brought this to my attention early this morning. For some reason I can't get it out my head.

I find this story sad and upsetting at the same time. Not so much of the fact of the child getting killed but more upset as to where was the grandmother while all of this was going on. I'm kind of confused as to why was he left alone anywhere in the house?

Hello; The link did not work for me but that a two year old has been killed is clear from your post. Having commented on similar threads before, I siuspect you are in for a lot of replys from the pitbull defenders.

As a former pitbull owner my first thought was to defend the dogs but there is so little details given in the article it's hard to judge what really happened and how the boy got outside in the first place. I know they will likely be put to sleep witch is sad because by the way they described how the dogs were cared for was very poor and they starved for attention.

Here's another link

Not necessarily as the OP isn't really attacking pitbulls just sharing a tragedy that happened that involved pitbulls. I'm of the mind and maybe wrong that the OP seems to feel the family was at fault for the tragedy. Which is always the real cause behind animal attacks which is poor owners. You can tell that just by looking up dog statistics where you'll be surprised what dogs have been responsible for deaths one prime example of a surprising dog on the list is Labradors. Labs are often described as one of the safest and most stable of temperaments among dogs, it's why they're used for the blind and infirm as therapy dogs etc. yet have killed 4 people. This in my opinion proves the "there's no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners" saying.

I agree it was a horrible shame and like you I wonder why a 2 year old was left unattended for such an extended period of time. You'd think at that age a responsible adult would either keep the child in their presence at all times or at least check on them regularly. Now this poor kid was in a house with 5 adults yet some how got outside with the 5 dogs and no one even cared where he was till the Grandmother returned to pick him up and asked where he was. Only then did everyone start frantically looking, what a real tragedy. It's exactly that same mentality that led to the dogs being so out of control. I mean if they showed a 2 year old so little attention what kind of attention did the dogs get. As Cesar Millan has pointed out dogs left in basically a group in a fenced in enclosure with no real human interaction will often revert to a wild pack like state. In my opinion these people failed miserably both with the child and as pet owners.

I couldn't agree more. I don't get how he could have got outside without at least one of those five adults seeing him. In the article it the woman who was in the house said he could have climbed out of a window. Either way how did you not hear all the commotion right outside their back door? I know that boy had to be screaming his head off while he was being attacked and the dogs barking but yet no one heard this.

So sad this could have been so easily avoided. Don't blame the dogs though blame ignorant people who shouldn't have dogs.
