Hey guys I'm new to the forums but I thought I would give it a shot. I picked up this flowerhorn at a LFS. I don't have extensive experience with flowerhorns and was just wondering if this one was large enough to sex or tell what species it is. I have been told it is a zz from a few instagram friends but I am unsure.

Thanks

Cool!

Flowerhorns dont have a species by the way. Theyre hybrids. Only way to know for sure is to contact the breeder.

It looks to me like it has some Synspilum, from the red throat. I would also say it seems to lack the overall Trimac coloring and spots, which could mean its not Trimac, or its being covered up by other qualities.

It has some color already, i would groq that out and give it some shrimp or krill to enhance the reds, it seems like it could be a pretty nice fish one day

Thanks for the info. He is a monster haha. I will grow him out and see what he looks like. I will keep updating on his progress.

Looks good nd nice colors!

Mouth like synspilum, body structure nd flowerline and pearls like crossing zz x carpinti.... seems having grandpa or grandmom synspillam x zz , parents may be zz x carpinti!! Need to see the parents to assume more red or orange! Also, blue+green is very good on it!!! but extremely multi crossed blood

Welcome to mfk fh forum. You have a very unique fh. Keep us updated on its growth. I remember seeing one like this 2yrs ago either here or another fh forum(s) on the web but not sure if the person ever posted an update of it being an adult.
