Types of Aros?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A jardini will work for a little while pretty cheap and easy to find way smaller than silvers and seem to grow slower so you wont have to worry much about hurrying to get a big tank as silvers....

And what do you plan to do when the fish does outgrow the tank?

Are you planning to get a bigger tank? If not, don't bother. You'd be wasting your time and possibly killing the aro. :irked:
Silvers get to 28+", while jars can reach up to 30" give or take.

A smuggled short bodied scleropages formosus. They are shorter, in fact.

What is the smallest species of arowana available to the pet trade?
I have a 110gal tank that's 4'L X18"W X30"H and I'm wondering if there is a species of arowana that wouldn't outgrow this tank too fast.

Minimum tank size for a Jar, which is the smallest, natural aro, would be a 6'x2'x2'. They grow to approx 24". A 110 is a good growout.

Although jars don't grow as large as silvers, they also don't turn as easily. Personally, I would say that you should save up for the tank, filtration, heaters, media, and lights and then consider the fish. These guys grow incredibly fast.

you will be fine. min. tank size for jars and asian aros would be 4x2x2. jars usually get up to 2' and you would need a tank that is twice the size of the aros size. 2' jar = 4' tank.
