also my little guy seems to have a brown scratch/gash on his body, how long does it take for him to heal up. how long does it takes for him to develope the notorious red eyes?

can you tell what type of black variant a baby piranha is? also why does it seem that black rhoms are more wanted than the black diamonds? aren't black diamonds more rare and expensive?

can't tell without knowing where it was caught, as far as people wanting reg. rhoms over diamonds that depends on who your talking to.........

it's personal taste.

Personally, I think whenever some scientists get around to it they'll be different species.

Take the convict cichlid for instance. It used to be Cryptoheros nigrofascitus. It was recently moved to it's own genus Amatitlania with a new species description for each geographic variant. It doesn't take long looking at all the different fish from all the different parts of south america named S. rhombeus to know that a re-organization of the species is most likely going to result in some new species. I think it probably will require DNA examination however.

One thing i've learned recently about evolution is that there really isn't such a thing as a rigid species the way we typically think of it. Darwin was intentionally vague when describing the definition of a species. Binomial nomenclature is really no more than a human label for something, and we can and do change those labels all the time.

you can't tell what variant a baby piranha is, even with the spot you could get two different rhoms.
