Hello! I've been reading through the forums here for about a week and haven't found an answer (surprisingly!! What a wealth of info over here!!).
My housemate adjusting the thermostat without my knowledge was what I'm positive led to my three 6" bichirs' (p. senegalus) demise
, but there is one other thing that has me curious...
Since my bichir were very tiny guys (three years ago...ahhh!), one of them had these three growth/fungus patches on his head. They were very dark grey/black. (one main patch on the top of his head/snout -- still have to learn my bichir anatomy -- and two smaller patches at the side).
The only incident I can think of that could have caused damage was when he got a bloodworm stuck in one side of his mouth for an entire day. I netted him, used a cotton swab to try to lift it from his mouth. Around that time, he grew these ugly black spots on his head. They looked bumpy, but not quite fuzzy, and didn't change size as he grew (maybe got smaller, but not noticeably).
what do you think these patches are? I know that is a gosh-awful photo (cel phone).
