Hello. I don't know a bunch about Uaru other than that I like them. I spent a little time digging online and didn't find a ton either. I have 2 regular Uaru from the lfs. They are adults now and have regular colored eyes. I see a lot of online pictures showing a red or bright orange like eye. How many different species are there other than the ones I have and pandas? I'd like to add more and try different kinds. Thanks.

There are only two described species: Uaru amphiacanthoides and Uaru fernandezyepezi. There is also Uaru sp. Orange, which may or may not be a different species. It looks just like amphiacanthoides with an orange chest.

There is a lot of variation among Uaru, probably because different collection locations in the wild yield slightly different-looking fish. Mos adults will end up with red/orange eyes, though like discus they can also be amber/yellow in color.

Thanks for the info Ryan. Seems like a bit of a crap shoot for now on knowing what you're going to get in a young one.
