I picked up a new tiger Oscar the other day and he literally swam to the bottom and sat there. I've done some research and learned that this is normal. However, I was wondering how long it typically lasts? He does not appear to be stressed or breathing hard.

The tank is about a month old, had a d. Compressiceps in it before and did completely fine, and still has a calico pleco in it.

good question, i bought a firemouth about 36 hours ago, claimed a cave and only comes out when the JD get to close and scares him away, having a hard time feeding. so id like to know the same thing haha

Your firemouth will come out soon enough. It took mine about a week to come up to the top for food. But he will eventually come around once he get use to his tank mates.

To answer the question about the sulking O. Give it a few days and maybe leave the light off to help with stress. Eventually once he or she gets use to your presence he will be very active. Maybe get some small schooling fish to put in with him, ones that are big enough that he cant eat them lol. When i first moved my oscar into a new tank they just chilled in the corner for a while and only swam around when the lights were off, as soon as the light came on, they swam back down.

different for every fish. my puffer pouts for a WEEK straight, no eating or anything. Your oscar will prob come out in 2-3 days though slowly

I had the light off all day today, I stuck a few pieces of flake at the top and after about 5 minutes he came up and ate them. I guess well just see what happens.

if it hasn't even been a week yet, and it is eating, don't worry too much...try to keep lights off as much as you can and it will eventually start acting normal.

Took 3 days for him to come around. I finally found a tiger barb for his tank at the lfs, and he perked up the instant I put it in.
