I was curious if any of you guys knew how to figure out the weight of an Acrylic tank!? I was considering a 180gallon that is new (CL and only has a coulpe of minor scratches very low on one side but never even drilled and filled...) and was windering how much less an Acrylic 180gallon would weigh in comparison to a 180gal Glass tank?

Thanks!

Depends on the thickness.

I moved my 220 in by myself, if that tells you anything. I'd estimate it weighs about half of what my 125 glass weighs.

Nice! Thanks everyone.

Question:

How forgiving are acrylic tanks when it comes to levelness? I don't plan on setting it up halfass. Just want to know what to be prepared for being that it will most likely be on carpet... And will there need to be 2 people in the middle to avoid and extra stress on the tank during placement?

I've never even touched an acrylic tank before, so I'm trying to get the whole picture here.... Thanks for the patience!

Took 3 men to move a 220 gallon acrylic sump; with the 3 of us, the sump was very easy to lift and move about.
DAM! A "SUMP"... Nice!

So does it need 3 people? It only takes me and my brother in law to lift a glass 180....

Where did the 3rd one lift? Walk underneither? lol

umm i wish i had this problem. I hope to try and move a 300 gallon acrylic to my house one day!

Mfg. stress the levelness of the tanks. Tencor does not offer lifetime warranties anymore unless you buy one of there $3000 dollar stands. The builder of mine warranties the tank for life if properly supported and level. He recommended concrete. Acrylic tanks fail at the seems because of the stress due to uneven surfaces.

it could have been lifted with just 2, but its always good to have extra help.
