An interesting find.
Yesterday I took the family to the Tyrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumhellar Alberta.
The Tyrell is considered to be one of the premier Museums of its type in the world.
long story short. Tons of dino bones, exhibits on the varying prehistoric world. In the middle of the museum, to my surprises was a small exhibit on...................................
you guessed it POLYPTERUS.
They had a 240 gall tank with a lap, an ornate and one monster of an congicous(at least 27" and thick like the end of a baseball hat)
The exhibit talked about their origins and how unchanged that they have been to the present.
Very cool to find.
I tried some pictures but only had my camera which combined with the algae on the glass made for some very poor pics....

Had to share

I jsut put it on my list of places to visit thanks much-Anne

Sounds like a fascinating exhibit. I wish that it wasn't quite such a long trip from Dallas, TX to Drumhellar, Alberta....not one I could easily explain away as a day trip, at any rate :)

I certainly do not want to mislead anyone as to the size or quality of the exhibit. I do not know if it would justify a trip across the country just for the Polypterus exhibit.
It was just really impressive to see poly's featured in a place like this.
Especially "neat" was the hordes of people looking at them with comments on how strange or rare they must be, best part was my 7 year old yelling out.....Dad, that is the same one you have!!!(ornate)

:iagree:

We camped in Drumheller this summer and had to take in the Royal Tyrell Museum. We were there once before 16yrs ago, and it is still certainly worthy of the title.

We almost missed the Polyperus tank, but my wife and daughter ran up and told me there was something I just had to see. Made my day. ;)
