Advice needed..
I just bought a few Uaru amphiacanthoides from LFS..:)
They are around 2inches total length. Have started feeding on hikari and JBL pellets.

How much do I need to feed them daily?
What's their growth rate?
I planning to comm them with my 4inches severum and blue acara. Is it possible?

Thanks!

I would feed them as much as they'll eat like any growing cichlid. I got mine at around 6" in June and she's put on about 2" since. I have her with an oscar & some little cons.

Re: tankmates the severum should work, blue acara might be a little rough but if the uaru have grown out some so they're not smaller than the acara you ought to be OK. Mine chases the cons around but they're all about 3" so much smaller than the uaru. Great fish.

Thank you so much for the reply! :)

I will have to add two more meals for them :D
How about veggie? Did you feed them any? green peas? lettuce? carrot?

any idea why those uaru.a feed on driftwood?

my driftwood was been constantly 'assaulted' by those uaru. :D

Mine are constantly picking on the driftwood and rearranging it. When I clean the tank I rotate the driftwood so the part that was touching or partially submerged in the gravel is now in facing the open water. Whatever is growing on there my Uarus start dancing and then along with the flagtail and pleco clean that wood like theres no tomorrow. It's like groupies with a rock band, an orgy of activity.

My Uaru's also love baby spinach leaves clipped to the tank. along with freeze dried and Wally mart earthworms , krill....the combination gives them a nice turquoise shimmer on their fins

Feed mine 4 times daily, starting with beafheart, then lettuce bloodworms and cichlid pellets, never seen any fish eat like they do and they splash water with excitement too!

keep an eye on that Acara. Sevs and uarus are peaceful but Acaras can be bullies.

mainly veggie diet and wood usually has a good bit of algae or whatever on it that they love.

friend has a 100g with a group and feeds lettuce, peas, veggie flakes and krill. he feeds 2-3 times a day.

He got em at 3" and most grew to about 7" in 5 months. He does 3 water changes a week.

how much were they at 2 inches? i have one that is 6 inches and paid 25 for him. wandering if it was a good deal or average
