I tried keeping some in pH7.8 and they did not thrive. Don't know if they were wild caught or not.
I'd say your water would probably not be great for them.
I had 2 tank bred ones at ph8.0 and very hard, they thrived. Ph is only really an issue if your fish are wild caught so long as extremes are avoided, a stable ph is much more important.
I think you may be hitting the extremes of what is acceptable to them.
Hard water is not the best for them. They will do ok if cared for right even in hard water. But will be best in soft water. Ph7 is good. They are a hardy fish I can say that. But can get Hith is not cared for right. Also make sure they have some greens in their diet. They need and love veggies. My uarus are the smartest fish I have ever had.
Its not ideal, but not the end of the world I'd say. Could lead to long-term problems though, I'd try using peat and/or rainwater to soften it up a bit, under 7 would be ideal.
