We're thinking about adding a Uaru amphiacanthodes to our 300 gallon South American community tank in the near future, but had some questions before proceeding with any purchase. First and foremost, I understand Uarus are mainly herbivores, but will they attempt to eat full sized Emperor Tetras (Nematobrycon palmeri)? We currently have 35 adult size Emperor tetras in the tank now and, obviously don't want them to be eaten by the Uaru at any point.
If the Uaru is compatible with the Emperors, is it better to purchase just one or two specimen? I understand they are often found in groups in the wild, but ultimately I would like to have just one or two of them at adult size in this tank. After quarantine, they would be going into the 300 along with the Emperors, 5 full grown Geophagus winemilleri, about 30 various corydoras, an adult angel, a juvenile royal pleco, and a 3" chocolate cichlid (Hypselecara temporalis).
Thanks for any help and info you might be able to provide.
