I picked up a 5-6" Uaru A. a few weeks ago and was wondering if this is something anyone has experienced with Uaru.

It twitches it's head to the side rhythmically, almost like it's getting small electric shocks about a half second apart. Don't really know how to describe it other than that. I notice it doing this pretty often. Also the other Uaru I have in the tank does this aswell, both from different sources, which is leading me to believe this is normal behavior.

Anybody know why it does this?

EDIT*

Thought I would add they are in a 60 gallon at the moment with 2 AC110's and a Magnum 350.

Don't know the parameters of the water but I do a 25% water change every 2-3 days

Temp is 83 degrees

Suppose it could be, would have to be love at first sight as they both started doing it the day I put the bigger one in the tank. Thanks for the reply

Another thing I held off on mentioning until I had a pic is after it.. defecates there is something whitish hanging from it's anus. Not a breeding tube as the poop.gif goes through the whitish something. Is this it's intestines?? Sorry for the crappy pic, best I could get.

I just finished dosing the tank with API General Cure

Any suggestions on what this is/what I can do are appreciated

If you're referring to this type of "twitching" (male umbee on the right side of the divider) it's just displaying/showing-off, usually a male trying to get a female's attention

Epsom salts and green peas will help with the prolapsed anus. Because it's white and there's nothing hanging out I doubt it's camallanus worms or an infection, it might just be a mild blockage.

It's kind of like what the male umbee is doing at :14 seconds but not as fast. I've seen cichlids do that before but what the Uaru is doing seems slightly different.

Do you think my Uaru eating massivore has anything to do with the prolapse? He always snags 1 or 2 pellets because my bichir is a little too slow. His main diet has been hikari cichlid staple, I'll pick up some peas today and see if I can get him to eat them.

Also at times the protrusion does have 2 stringy/feathery things that are white in color, about 1 or 2mm in length. Doesn't look like any pics I've seen of camallanus though

Thanks

Alright so now his anus is completely swollen/bulging. He definately hasn't lost his appetite, swims up to the top of the tank every time I stand up near the tank.

I'll try to get a pic up asap
