Uaru update

Here are my 3 Uaru after a month.
They are doing great. They have totally demolished the Valisneria that I put in for them(expected that to happen). Very enjoyable watching them go at it though so I left it floating for them and they graze on it throughout the day.
As for the Java Fern, Anubias and Cryptocorne they have not taken any bites out of them. Barley, if you happen across this, those may be some possibilities for your 220 if you are still interested in live plants.

Their diet consist of Valisneria, frozen Spirulina, froze Brine Shrimp, Hikari Cichlid Staple pellets and Ocean Nutrition Cichlid Vegi Formula.

Give it time, my three small uaru have demolished several large and well established java fern plants that were in their tank, as well as a few small anubius. They're now nibbling on the driftwood!!

Nice fish, and the tank looks good too!!

Thanks! Yeah I am keeping a close eye on the fern and the anubias. Any problems and they will go into my Mbuna tank.

ive got 2 uaru A. they destroy some plant i get for them called Elodea Densa. they go at them something rotten. i get them purposely so they leave my anubias nana alone but there is still chunks out my anubias. java fern is a no hoper for me too.
how big are your uaru?

give them a frozen bloodworm cube and watch them turn into piranna. ive tried mine on cichlid mix, general mix, daphnia cucumber and bloodworm. the one they pick everytime is bloodworm and they get very territorial over their piece of cucumber. they pick the bloodworm out of the 2 types of mixes then start on the rest. they also steal the plecs algae wafers so i put extra in for them now.

The largest one which is the top pic is between 5-6" total and the two smaller ones are about 3" each.

they are looking great !!!!!!!!!!!!!! good job with them !!!!!

mine do love their blood worms along with every thing else.


p.s. i am sure i have a pair they layed eggs this weekend the male ate them with in an hour but hey at least they tried
(they are notorious egg eaters)

I recently got some f/d earthworms and my uaru loves them (he also steals krill from my gar and poly).

they will eat just about anything... every time i go fishing i bring the extra earthworms home for them and they fight over them !!!! when it comes to eating they are as bad as Os.
