Yesterday, I was given 2 baby uaru as an early bday gift. I wanted them for my bday and got them. They are still small like 2'', and came with a free festivum. They love the 75 gallon. I am looking for as much info I can get about them, I googled them but I am looking for other aquatics experiences with them. They ate like piggies this morning.

Love Uaru's. 2 inchers would definitely be more comfortable in groups, but will probably be ok if kept among other peaceful fish. They like to chew on driftwood. Clean water is a must. Warm temps, I keep mine at 84-86. And try to provide some veggies to their diet (cucumber, hikari mini algae wafers, seaweed salad, omega one super kelp pellets, etc).

I have 3 adults in a 5 foot 120 with other peaceful SA cichlids. They eat anything and are pretty personable. Mine will eat romaine lettuce right out of my hand. I bought them as adults, so I can't comment on growing them out from 2". They are great fish. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I will get some more uaru at the shop. I have driftwood in the tank and I noticed them chewing on it. I will keep my temp at 80. I have aqueon mini cichlid pellets, omega veggi pellets, flakes, etc. I feed my silverdollars lettuce and peas I can offer the uaru that.
I did forget one question how would the uaru fare with its tank mates in a 75 gallon? 1 myleus schmoburgkii, 4 myleus rubrippinis, 1 silverdollar, 2 clown loaches, and a festivum.
Any pics of your uarus would be awesome if you guys feel like posting them. I will post pics of my uaru tonight.

Those tankmates are fine depending on their size, but the Uaru's get pretty big (10"), in a year or so they will need a bigger home if you're getting more.

ETA: <----My Uaru in my avatar is at about 8", had him for about 9 months.

all above info is correct only thing i would add is that they do grow much larger than 10"(will take some time)i have one in with my bocourti pair and my pearsi that is 12" plus(of course it is three years old but i had it since it was 1.2-2 inches)

I would keep my water warmer than 80F. They are like discus. They seem to do better long-term with warmer water. You'll also need LOTS of food and LOTS of water changes because they're big eaters and prone to HITH if the water quality suffers. They eat lots of veggies and love chewing on wood, but they will also chew down any sponge material in your tank.

If you're going to add more than 2, you'll certainly need a bigger tank and fast. It doesn't take Uaru long to grow. I had some go from thumbnail-size to over 6" in just a few months.

I had one before that i brought as a single fish, he hid alot and ate very little, before I had a chance to get him some friends or move him to another tank he had some kind of bacterial infection and died.

All i can say is when they are young they need places to hide and that they look kind of like ugly tiny discus's :P They look stunning as adults though ! as you can see above
