Can anyone share any information on keeping Uaru's? What is their growth rate, and what kind of tankmates is best for them? I would be putting them with angels. Is it best to keep them in pairs? Thanks for any info...

I dont know a whole lot about them but the ones i have arent agressive at all, they seem to be growing fairly quickly, and are about 2" long

their are 2 different types of uaru

uaru.f and uaru.a

they grow very fast the most comen type of uaru is uaru.a and do best in groups of 6 or more but they grow to about 10inch easy

they need a high temp and a low ph to do well

They are simular to severums, they like to be in groups of 4 or more and can hit 12 inches in length.

From what I have heard and it seems to be affirmed by the 2 previous posts they are a schooling fish. Been told they can reach 12" usually 10" in aquarium. Peaceful for the most part so community tanks serve them well. Also in a school will do well with other cichlids.

mine have grown slowly but its a mystery may be related to my system having a heavy hormone level. i keep mine with severums oscars and geophagus. nice looking fish and take no crap from the oscars either, can be a little slow to feed.

What about water hardness? does this affect them in any way? I recently got 4 babvies, and I liv ein Fl, so unluess I purchase a RO unit, I can't get the hardness down. The pH is down to 7.0 with peat in the filter, driftwood, etc.

Mine are all of an inch long, and live with a geo. and some plecos, in a planted tank.

they will thrive in a low ph.
