Some of you may have seen my post before about the red edges of the anal fins on all my poly's. The water quality was all over the place and last night I did a test and saw that the water params were all good... but the water is still really cloudy, we've done water changes and cleaned up the filter, but the water just will not stop being gross. Then last night as I was going to feed them, I saw my little Ornate floating at the top not breathing. His fins were frayed and clamped up and he looked dead. After a little bit of poking though he woke up and just kind of bobbed around, so I moved him over to the 12 gallon which is very clear... he seems to be doing better in there, but how do I save my other fish? They never used to really hide and now even my Senegal who used to be the life of the tank doesn't come out... :( Is there anything I can to do help my children?

you say your water params are good, so what kind of substrate are u using? and what are you feeding? any new tankmates?

I'm using a semi-fine sand/gravel substrate. I'm feeding sinking carnivore pellets, earthworms, bloodworms (sometimes), thawed shrimp (sometimes). No, I haven't been able to buy any new fish because I'm saving up for a Fender guitar... :screwy:

I'm using an API complete test kit... nitrates were at 0.0 ppm, nitrites were at 0.0 ppm, and ammonia was at 0.25 ppm. Substrate is up there ^. I don't really have a feeding schedule, usually once every other day. Water changes are rare, maybe once a month and we do about... 25-50 percent... it depends. And it's a 90 gallon tank with 1 senegal bichir, 1 delhezi, 3 ropefish, 3 kribs, 2 pearl gouramis, some kind of small pleco and 2 spotted raphael catfish.
 
what type of filtration are you using?
throw more filtration at the problem.... get some zeolite and carbon to soak up any ammonia / nitrate / chemicals that may be in the tank.
 
try doing water changes more often but in smaller amounts, such as 15%-30% every other week. also add some aquarium salt to help the fish if they are under any kind of stress
