What'd yall think? Hughes/Gracie fight went exactly what I expected, but it would have been cool if Matt could have submitted Royce. Gracie definately doesn't have the tools right now to compete with the modern fighters - sad to see a legend fall though. I was suprised that he said that he was gonna fight again. I will be interesting to see what areas he trains and if he looks any better.

I thought the most exciting fight, other than the main event, was the Fischer/Wiman fight. That flying knee was siiiiiick. I was suprised at the Diego Sanchez fight too. Thought he would have murdered that guy. Was pretty disappointed in the crowd too for booing him.

I completely agree with you. I was confused why the crowd was booing Sanchez. Alessio was being a b*tch and was in defense the whole time.

I just watched the fight now slightly druck seen as it's nearly 2am and i wasn't suprised that Matt huges won thing i was suprised about weas the lenght of time it lasted...

Edited Royce graqcie took the punishment./.. he could have easy been took out by armbar but stuck in therer.

Yeah, he definately took the punishment, and Matt and Randy Couture made a good point. Back in Royce's day, fights had no time limit, no weight classes, and no rules. He became successful by being able to take a beating and last until he could catch an opponent in a submission. I don't think Gracie was prepared for a fight with limited rounds and that the ref could stop if he thought one of them could not intelligently defend themselves anymore. He's been beat before, and I think he would have kept fighting had Big John not stopped it.

That being said, I think he still would have gotten the snot kicked out of him. He was way out matched. Hell, Matt almost submitted him, the "greatest submission fighter of all-time," with that arm bar.

No Way would Gracie tap. He would rather have his arm broken before he taps. I was definately amazed that Huges took it to the mat. Huges is one of the all time greats and is one of my favorites. He's a really respectful guy.

You know what I'm waiting for now...Hughes vs GSP. Who else can he fight?

Matt's good but not even nearly close to being skilled enough to submit Gracie.. He's too evolved in the mind for someone so simple minded to submit him.. Matt could have broken that arm and still would have been frustrated, at the raw mind power of Royce.

But the competition is only getting tougher and more refined.

thats going to be the fight of the year imo....... I think GSP will pull it off this time...... that is the one division in the UFC that i think out classes Pride....... Jason Miller, Karo, Diaz, BJ...... the talent runs deep..........
