This card is awesome. I didn't even know Fitch was fighting on this card until I posted this. This will be the best card in a while, and for a while.
Georges St-Pierre Vs. BJ Penn - I cannot wait for this fight. The UFC is doing a really good job of hyping it up so it will bring more people in to watch. I don't really care too much about what they say outside of the cage, I'm just excited because of how good these two guys are. In examining them looking for flaws, I think it comes down to BJ's cardio, and GSP's tendency to sometimes give up quick jabs. Now, compared to other fighters, these things are really non issues because on an everyday basis both of these guys are so much better than their opposition that it doesn't matter. I am interested though to see where BJ puts the weight that he gained for this fight. If this fight goes long, I think it does favor GSP. I'm going to take GSP in this fight, but it's not by much. There is no outcome that could happen that would really surprise me that much.
One thing to look out for though is if this goes to decision again, and it's close, you can be sure that it will go to Penn, so the tiebreaker fight can be done, just a thought.
Lyoto Machida Vs. Thiago Silva - This fight is really intriguing because I think everyone in the world is just assuming that Machida will win. There is such a huge movement in the mma community for machida, that everyone is just waiting for him to get his shot, because they feel he's been denied (and they may be right). But Silva can fight. He is undefeated too, and I think he would love to take down Machida, and get his own shot. I'm still leaning towards Machida, but I think Silva could easily take this fight.
Stephan Bonnar Vs. Jon Jones - I'm excited for this one because for some reason I just like Bonnar. I don't know if it was the Griffin fight, or if it's because he looks like Nicholas Cage, but I just like him. I hope he can get back on track with this fight. I like guys who know what they're good at, and do it. He has been working hard to develop other parts of his game, and he'll need that, but use what your good at against your opponent.
Karo Parisyan Vs. Dong Hyun Kim - KARO KARO KARO As some of you know I am a huge Karo guy, I'm not really sure why, I think it's because I'm partial to judo guys, but Karo rocks. I think he is past his prime, but it would still be nice for him to get a win. He is stuck in that spot where he can still fight, but he will not be able to reach the top again in his class. I think maybe he should entertain the idea of dropping weight, considering that he has never really been "cut" and his judo would help him to be able to toss lighter guys around in a lower class.
Nate Diaz Vs. Clay Guida - This should be a fun fight. I always pick against Diaz because I'm like "no way this guy can win a fight with that build" but he does. Clay is fun to watch, and I think he'll win here because Diaz will like to take this to the ground and submit but I'm not sure that Diaz will be able to mange Guida's pace on the ground.
Jon Fitch Vs. Akihiro Gono - I like Fitch here in a bounce back fight. He showed me a lot in the GSP fight, and I think he is really talented, and he's got a good "heart" for the sport. He is a fan favorite, and those guys are good for mma, so I hope he can get a win here.
Manny Gamburyan Vs. Thiago Tavares - This should be a fun fight, I'm gonna go with Manny, but Tavares is solid. Good match up.
