I just got my PS3 back today from having the YLOD fixed. Its been sitting for quite a while now. I was really excited and ran out and bought Gran Turismo 5, sat through about an hour and a half of updates only to find out I cant play new games apparently.
When starting GT5 it asks to install game data utility, of course I say yes. The progress bar fills up but it still says there is time remaining. The loading icon in the corner of the screen is no longer there, and the orange HDD access light isnt blinking anymore. I restarted the system and saw that I have GDU and a save file for GT5 but when I start the game again it asks to install GDU... If I say yes the same thing happens again, if I say no I get stuck on a loading screen before I even get to the main menu.
I tried an old game and it worked fine, but I do recall having similar problems with Dragon Age Origins. After weeks of playing it suddenly decided it wouldnt load up anymore and blamed it on GDU issues. I wrote it off at the time since DAO was so buggy anyway, but now its serious. I'm so ready to throw it out the window and swear off video games forever.
