;) A good school of 9 Silver dollars, 1 Red hook silver dollar, and 1 Thin bar red hook silver dollar. All in my awesome 250 gallon; well-fed, given vegetables flakes, cichlid pellets.. excellent water quality and space... breeding and dancing.. but dang it, I wonder who nipped my oscar?!.... blah!! I was hoping they keep the nipping to themselves, but nooo! They had to attack their tankmates -_- One of the things I hate the most about dollars! The nipping!! Drives me nuts! Why do they nip fins? Any explanation?? Is it because they channeled out their inner piranha genes or something!?!? Has this happened to your setups where you have this nice perfect-looking Oscar and/or other fish just to have their fins nipped every now and then with SDs as tankmates? They also nipped my Tinfoil barb's arm a little bit.. it's not noticeable but gah.. disappointed with my SD's behaviors. I know fins can heal in time with clean water, but damn!! It might heal deformed.... however, good thing he can still grow bigger (he's only about 8 inches grown from a 2 and half inch 11 months ago) and that fin area will outgrow and be gone.... Still pissed off though lol.. not trying to hate on silver dollars, they're awesome looking quick fish, but my goodness gracious.. they sure as hell bite!!

Sorry for venting guys haha. Hope you folks don't mind.

So will the nipping only get worse? I'm worried about my oscar, I mean he will get huge and will be at a disadvantage cause the SD's are quick, and will probably decide to yank out off a fin meat anytime they want literally since the oscar is gonna get bigger, take up room in the tank and be slower.. I can cope with the nipping for now, honestly it's just a once in a while kind of thing and sometimes it's not that bad, but this time I'm kinda fed up about it.. and it looks bad on my Oscar currently, because I'm pretty darn close to him..

Sounds like a nice tank how about some pics? I have 24 SDs (3 different species) and they don't bother anyone. Only issue I've seen is a female red hook that chases other SDs off.

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses.

The regular red hook's is around 5 and a half inches.

KNH, wow 24 SDs!! Sweet! And sure, I'll see if I can upload some pics. So you guys leaning towards the red hooks that done the nipping, eh? Anyone else think so? I'm definitely gonna keep a close eye on my red hooks in the meantime then.
