Hi Guys,
Just wondering whats every1's opinions on UGJ Under Gravel Jets.. whats its main use, does it work etc

I know these are ran off a seperate pump in the tank but would it be possible to use my internal filter output to power the ugj??its a Rekord 120l tank it had a black box in the back containing sponges and a power head. this would result in the water surface not being broken 24/7, i have an air stone that i have one during the day.

thanks supertank

If you are going to go through the trouble of making a UGJ, you may as well configure it as a reverse UGF so that the gravel bed is kept clean and used as additional bio-media. A RUGF also will prevent excess turbulence/current (not good for fish from placid waters).

I have not done a UGJ system but the concept is to keep the detritus suspended in the water coulmn so that it is pick up by your filter/s and thus keep the gravel clean. whoever came up with the idea did not like to vaccum the his gravel.

I tried a ugj, i think i had it in the tank for a week.. at most. my problem was i did not have a large enough pump, it was ok, but if i did it again i would go with a lot bigger pump.

I agree. they are useful, but I have never bothered to set one up. maybe one day.
As far as hooking up to your filter. You would just have to make sure that the output is enough to provide the flow that they require.

What were the specifics of your setup? Pump? Tank size? Was the UGJ completely looped? PVC pipe size? Just curious as I want to use one in the future, but would like to try and avoid the pitfalls of others.
