I just bought a 240 acrylic tank and put on a stand made for a glass tank (perimeter support only). Doing some web surfing tonight, I see that with an acrylic tank you need a lot more support under it. Makes sense after I thought about it. Does anyone have an idea how long till a failure of some sort? Will it just bow, or crack. The bottom is 1/2" Please tell me it takes years before you have problems......please? I will be moving in around 2 years, do I have that long?
Thanks

Just drain it and put a piece of 3/4" plywood on top of the stand.and some 1/2" piece of foam.

Is it OK to have cutouts for my overflows? Or do I have to drill holes for the bulkheads?

I would start draining immediately. Acrylic bows, your going to spilt a seam.

sorry to ask but, why wont the stand work. What is so different about acrylic over glass?

Acrylic isn't rigid like glass. It will bow and eventually fail. It needs full support under the bottom.

yeah ive had mine on a stand like that since january. i didnt understand the risk and the guy that had it before me said it was fine and worked for him, which really just means its that much closer to failure. my new stand is made so i just am trying to get the man power to make it happen. if you can, id follow what paulbearer said and get some plywood under it and soon. dont be a dummy like me
