Hey can anyone help me out? I picked up some clowns for cycling my tank and the store convinced me that I needed an anenome. I repeatedly asked him if it was hardy enough to survive and he told me it would be fine, now a day later it's not looking so hot. I took some pics. Please tell me it's just my imagination and its not going to die!!! I'll be soo p***ed at that store for lying if it does. I checked my lvls today and they aren't that high either. Not near a toxic lvl anyway. Could it maybe be splitting? The first pic with the domino and clown is what it looked like two days ago. The rest is what it looks like now. Even my brothers are saying it looks like its dying. It puffs up this curls parts of itself in and gets long and stringy then puffs up again.

Hey I hate to be cruel to them too. I was told that these guys would be fine. Thats the whole point of me posting here. If it is gonna die I'm gonna take it back to the store so it has a chance to live. I don't want it to die. Besides my cycle isn't at a toxic lvl any how. Theres only trace amounts of amnonia and nitrate.

First let me say i wouldnt get too tore up yet. Just trying to get acclimated to its new enviornment can cause some distress in these animals. Next how much lite do you have on it?? Are you running a skimmer?? is there plenty of circulation in your tank??, are the clowns bugging it?? Lots of things to consider before you jump to any conclusions. :chillpill::chillpill:

Yeah, I remember when my roomate decided to wash the dishes with bleach and didn't rinse them well and I drank 'trace' amounts of bleach the next time I filled up a glass of water. Not the loveliest experience.

I have a 24" t5 its a 29 gal tank. I have a really good current going in there right now. The clowns haven't even touched it. My domino goes near it but doesn't really seem to be harming it. It keeps opening and closing and its tentecles puff up and gets stringy again. Besides all that, I'm wondering about this bleach drinking guy wanting me to cycle a tank with chemicals? WTF? Have you ever heard of organic? Those chemicals would still be present in the water after its cycled. And like you said, even trace amounts doesn't taste very good. Please don't tell me you want me to pour bleach in my tank to start the bacteria growth. :screwy:

This is the exact frigging reason why everyone should cycle with chemicals, not live animals.

No kidding. You cycle a SW tank with live rock or Bio-Spira that's it!

IMO, you really should return that anemone until your tank is not only cycled but established & stable for at least 6-12 months. The nem will not survive in there.

It is not cruel to keep clowns w/o an nem for them to host in. It is cruel to cycle a tank with fish.

Please do lots more research bofeor you go any further: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1031074
