i was given a bullfrog tadpole which is apparently around 2 years old.
i know nothing about these guys or even if im allowed to have one. i was planning on moving him to someplace that would take him. but recently saw video with someone with a bullfrog pet.

so was curious to know if anyone has one, and what they would recommend for keeping, housing, feeding?IMAG0073.jpgIMAG0124.jpgIMAG0111.jpgIMAG0119.jpgIMAG0123.jpg

You'd need a fairly oversized tank for a bullfrog, about 75 gallons would be good for a pair perhaps.
The guy you have now in his tadpole form will be there for pretty long, just keep water pristine, anti-chlorinated.
These creatures do put out a fair portion of waste, and should be fed a variety of items, algae, dark leafy greens, stuff like that.
He'd be like that for a few months at least, I'm not sure how long they'll remain in this form.

On the other hand, I just noticed that he's got back legs. So...make the water shallow as soon as his front legs pop out and ensure he has multiple good surfaces to climb onto land, just in case. Come back again with his measurements as a froglet and there'd probably be a variety of items that can be suggested to be fed. In the meantime, you should get a good roach culture(dubias, lobster ETC), they are easier than crickets and really low maintenance.

hes in my 120g turtle/comunity tank. has a turtle island.
going to be a 400g with about 4sqft of land, i could put more if thats the case, as im building designing the tank over the next month.
i have a Midland painted, and mbu puffer, which im building the aquarium for.

hes over 3" long, over 1" wide right now, i was told they dont start growing legs for 2 years. but iuno if thats true or not, and was told i have up to 6 months before he will have his front legs. he was brought in with a bunch of feeders from a pond. and they cant sell it. was going to be fed to the pirahnas but i said ill take it. and see what happens. since i already have a very random aquarium. was more thinking of finding a place that would take it in once he has his legs.

hes eating krill, shrimp, turtle pellets, any left overs from feedings. hides alot, doesnt come out much. just cant believe how big it is. i freaked out when i saw it, couldnt believe it was a tadpole.

anyone have one, or experience owning one?

HOLY scary tadpole!!! i thought tadpoles were tiny!!

Forget about putting your bullfrog with fish that have the potential to hurt. Probassfisher is right, your puffer will find a good snack in him. So, no sharp teeth, sharp fins, beaks, spikes and stuff like that.

The fella won't be too big once he becomes a frog. As I said, you'd probably want to get a good roach culture.

Bullfrogs get rather Big...They grow on average to be about 3.6 to 6 in (9.1 to 15 cm) in body length (although there are records of some up to 8.0 in (20 cm)), legs add another 7 to 10 in (18 to 25 cm) to length
Time to metamorphosis ranges from a few months in the southern to three years in the northern parts of the geographic range

They eat anything that can fit in their mouths...Fish..Mammals..Snakes..Birds..Each Other.and they eat a lot..And they will chock to death trying to eat stuff to big...Stomach content studies going back to 1913 suggest the bullfrog preys on any animal it can overpower and stuff down its throat. Bullfrog stomachs have been found to contain rodents, small turtles, snakes, frogs (including bullfrogs), birds, and a bat, as well as the many invertebrates, such as insects, which are the usual food of ranid frogs

see im more worried about the bullfrog trying to eat everyone else. puffer wouldnt touch him. only eats shrimp and snails and crays. picky guy. tried my finger once didnt like it stopped eating from my hand after that, but now hes eating from my hand again.

are they a smart, like a turtle?
iv trained the turtle to only eat certain things, aswell as knows what fish in the tank he can eat and what others to stay away from.

if i cant keep the bullfrog in same tank then i most likely will donate to someone who is interested in him. i have a friend who keeps rare and exotic reptiles as well, has a reptile zoo. hes out of town doing a show so have yet to meet with him but yeah trying to learn more. if a mistakes happens i can at least say i gave him more than a life than what he was going to have. since i saved him as he was going to be food. but non the less thats the last thing i would want to happen.

and are they loud, like am i going to listen to it croaking all night like i do at my cottage??
omg i caught one up at my cottage and it screamed like a cat does. scared the **** out of me. was not a noise i was expecting from a frog. but cute lil big guy. lol if that makes sence

I would not house a Bull frog with anything you do not want eatten. Even housed together they will eat each other. I had some in an outdoor pond that showed up naturally and They ate a lot. Yes they are loud when Croaking.
