i aquarist classified ,several sellers all seem to be small fish around 10 cm ranging £70 -£400.I,m in n.ireland so its hard to get first hand feedback about these things.I would still be grateful to hear from anybobys experiences with these fish.

10cm - that should give you about 3 months before you need a lake building in your back garden lol!

Small Arapaima around 6-8" tend to be very fragile. They succumb to disease or loss of appetite. The bigger the better. I know of people, that bought some and within 4 to 7 days they were on there way out. Waste of money.
Good Luck

A couple things I learned from my first batch of arapaima

Parasites like ich can't attach to their skin, but will attack their gills. Look for pinkish grey gills. Clear sign of parasitic infestation and will mean their demise.

Do SMALL water changes. They don't like new water.

Feed feeders until around 1 ft. long. Mine were 8 inches and were eating market shrimp like pigs, but they still didn't make it. Live food I've been told is key until 1 ft.
