Northwest, UK
hi all im in the northwest uk and just wondering where or who in the uk is good for rays? i know of pier aquatics in wigan and some others that stock the odd ones but are there any specialist outlets or breeders selling pups (possibly black) in the uk? willing to travel got 4 days off work now :)

cheers, mike

not really mate. its a matter of finding a private keeper who has had a litter of pups.
if your after blacks then its just keeping your eyes open and seeing what comes up.

pier is the place for pearl rays.

wharf carry rays but there quite expencive and dont really get a huge amount in. a couple of nice marble motoro, jaguar, retics the norm really.

i dont think there is a large enough market in the uk for a true secialist ray seller in the uk, especially blacks, not manny ppl have a few grand to spend on a couple of rays.

neil at peir can get you blacks in if you were to order them. he will only get you quality rays so no risk to you. if i had the cash thats were i would be going.
all these sellers on aquariust free adds ect you are taking a risk especially if your paying money for a ray they can "get in for you".

as i expected really mate, the post was really about finding somewhere to do a little road trip to go and have a look. i dont have the money for blacks myself right now :) i work in an aquatics shop and we can get wild or captive black rays in but the cost is a bit high for the display tank lol :) currently have standard motoro, marbles and jaguars in the shop which were growing on and hoping to breed :)

i've got 2 marine tanks at the minute and im thinking of taking one or both of them down and getting one large freshwater system but i would have to build a fish house in the garden as there isnt enough room in the house lol. looking like a few hundred for the building and insulation etc, then atleast the same again for the system. you think the largest of these http://www.lagunaponds.com/lagunaeng/basins.php 6x4x2 (1300L not 700L like it says?) would be adequate for a pair? bit cheaper than glass you see :) i know 6' bit smaller than what most go for but 4' wide definately an advantage.

settin off for pier now for a little look at those pearl pups :D

If you want black rays, there is a bloke called Giles near northampton,he breeds henlei and leopoldi,i know for a fact that he is exspecting leo pups any week now as i have my name down for one,the parents are awsome with the farther being a black diamond leo,i know people who have brought from him before and they have nothing but good things to say about him,i would say if its black rays you want he's your man,i found him to be a great bloke and very genuine,he is on this forum called rayrayray give him a pm i'm sure he'll help you.

took a trip up to pier :) amazing!

thanks for the heads up rufus i do WANT black rays just like everyone else but i dont think ill realise that dream for a while lol

gonna get myself setup and get some nice marbles first i think :)

yes matey, get a good set up as big as you can go. if you can go 10ft do it. youll only wish you did if you dont.
then once you have the setup start with the rays.

well i wasnt gonna buy the rays first lol :P

does anyone here have a fish house? i couldnt possibly have a big enough tank indoors you see. seen an ad in the local rag 200 quid for an 8' x 6' shed after insulating could prob get a 7' x 4' in there :) just wondering if any tips on how to keep costs down etc...
