I'm thinking about setting up 4 or 5 RBPs in a 75g. but I'm in the UK, what size tank (inches) or uk gallons should I be looking at, also should I get more in case of cannabilism, any other advice would be appreciated.

OK mate,

1. Your Tank should be a minimum of 4' as Piranhas prefer length to width. 5' would be ideal though
2. If your looking at getting semi-adults of around 6" I would get 6 but If your getting youngsters of around 1-2" I would get 10-15 in case of cannibalism as the stronger ones will pick off the smaller ones and you will be left with a good sized group.

I hope this is helpful,

Thanks

Thanks, what's the price difference between them? I haven't found anywhere that sells them yet. Are there any advantages to semi-aduldts? If I get 6" ones can I get some neon tetras?
Also about filters, this will be my first big tank, I've only ever had a 15g tropical before, what should I get.

small fry:
I'm sorry i can't help you much with the price differece. But when i use to have rbps i got them when they were about an inch and a half and grew them out till about 6 to 7 inches. Usually you don't wanna keep anything in your tank that is smaller than the main predator in your tank. So if you got neon tetras they'd just be little snacks for them. i tried it and it didn't work.

Also with the filter you're obviously going to need something bigger than the filter for your 15ga. If you go to you LFS they shoulod be able to help you out. You also might want to invest in a protein skimmer as feeding live fish creates a surface scum. P's are messy eaters so you're gonna have to get a good filter.

Feeding i use to feed my 3 p's once a day. I would give them two goldfish between the 3 of them. But there are a lot of ppl who are anti-feeder coz of disease and things like that so its up to you. Other than that i use to feed my p\s beef heart, beef, chicken, market fish, bloodworms, squid. Usually just once a day. I also kept a crayfish in there to pick up and scraps my p\s left out. eventually he lost half his face.

Hope this helps..

a 48x18x18 would be ok for 4 reds i used to keep 2 reds, 2 caribe and a piraya in a 48x20x20 and they ranged from 7-8+'' and had no problems.
my set up was 2 internal fluval 4 filters and later i got 1 1000ltr external and still kept 1 fluval 4 internal, i also had a 300w heater.
as for feeding i fed every other day and fed them on prawns and whitebait probably about 6 whitebait and 2-4 prawns at each feeding.
you can feed every day if they will eat but when bigger every other day is ok, when realy small though i was feeding twice a day to around 3'' then once a day until around 6''.
it is illegal to feed feeders in the UK and where as the US and other countrys have feeders for sale at very cheap prices you would have to buy goldfish etc at 50p per fish.
there is no need to feed feeders as other food will be taken.

Thanks a lot.
does anyone kow any good places to buy RBPs or good priced tanks?
As this will be my only tank, are RBPs worth it? seeing as they'll have the whole thing to themselves? If not do you have any other suggestions for community tanks? but I really like the piranhas just getting opinions

OK an LFS stands for "Local Fish Shop" so basically your Local Store.

I would get Red Belly's probably from your LFS and tanks I would be inclined to go second hand Here is a good place to go just search for what tank size you want.

If you decide to go for some other species of Piranha your best is Nick Gardner he imports most of the Piranha (except Red-Belly's) in the UK so if you decide to go down that road here is is website- Nick Gardner

Thanks

Ed

A 75g US would work fine. It equals 62.5g British Imperial (aka weird limey crap :grinno: ), 75g BI = 90g US.
