I purchased a 7'' male motaguense a few weeks back and he has not eaten a thing since. All the other fish in my tank show no symptoms, are eating and completely healthy and water parameters tested normal. I have also been doing 2-3 water changes a week since I have had the fish and he has not gotten better. Here are his symptoms...

Symptoms:
-loss of appetite
-fin rot
-and as of today what appears to be an ulcer or red sore on his mouth

I have been treating it with maroxy and maracyn-2 the past couple days...Any others ideas of what I could do?

I'm sure it's stressed. Have you witnessed any battling. BTW Motas rock! Rather tough fish too. His diet might have changed since you've bought him. It could be spoiled by feeders or floating pellets. Change it up. Try soaking your food in garlic or tuna water for a minute before feeding them.

now his face is completely swollen...any other advice? symptoms seem to be getting w
worse

Is this the main tank?
Any substrate?
Whata re water parameters?
Temperature?
Filtration?
What color is the poop? Stringy as well?
What do you feed it?

Keep the fish separated in a hospital tank and do NOT involve your other fish in your attempted treatments. Antibiotics can deactivate their immune system and leave them prone to other infections.

If you cannot get another tank, then use a rubbermaid tub or fiberglass tub.

IMO, the fish in question must be kept by itself in a barebottom tank with HOB filtration. Add a teaspoon per gallon of pure sodium chloride (aquarium or rock or pickling salt). Make sure the salt does not contain yellow prussiate of soda. Iodine however is acceptable as it is not toxic. Add a second set of salt in the next 12 hours if your fish is able to tolerate it. The third and last set may be added in the next 12 hours after the second. Be sure you DISSOLVE the salt first before adding. Keep water well aerated and maintain 80 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature.

Do you have access to metronidazole?

Meanwhile, stop the antibiotic treatment. The salt should keep bacteria at bay. Take pics of the swollen and ulcerated areas so we can see the extent of damage.
