I was looking to upgrade sumps to a 130g with 4 filter sock holders. Then I ran into the ultima filters for aquariums and ponds. I have a 750g freshwater aquarium. I understand how to plumb the ultima and its easy enough for me to bk flush the ultima. My question would be is the ultima filter 1000 model efficient enough to replace my sumps bio and mechanical filtration?

Don’t have any useful info other than to say go Ultima...

I’ve sadly spent too much and waited too long for a custom w/d...

If you do a search on Ultima IIs on MFK, you will find that some people need more mechanical filtration. Others have two Ultimas and purge them at different times. Based on other peoples' experiences, if you are heavily stocked, a single Ultima II 1000 might leave you wanting more mechanical filtration. If you are heavily stocked, have you considered an Ultima II 2000 or getting two 1000s?

Thanks for the reply. But after more research I made the choice to go with a new sump.

I think a sump is a good choice.

A single Ultima filter for your tank will give you excellent bio filtration and mechanical? (I don't know how effective mechanical filtration is on an Ultima because I have never run one) but it will give you no Air/Water contact area to oxygenate the water and off gas organic compounds. A sump almost always has a wealth of Air/Water surface area which is what I consider one of their biggest advantages.

Was lucky enough to find a used sump local.
I pick it up this weekend. I'll slightly modify the chambers to fit my needs as far as biological goes. I've got about 15g of marine pure that I use. I've just recently upgraded from my 500g double bowfront and my sump is currently two sumps attached by bulkheads. (Leaks no matter what)
And only has two filter socks.
