ok, all i got in websites are the sales pitch specs!
nothing that actually helps me

i am looking at setting up 3600L to 4000L tank.

should i buy this, it SEEMS good value for money

who has used it, are they for bio, mechanical, both?
how does it work?

i mean, where does it put the junk and chunks you filter and how do you clean it? in terms of bio media, how does it rate compared to your standard bio noodle bio ball set up?

all info please:d

tank is gonna be heavily stocked, aro comm, clown loaches, plecos.

How big is your tank? This is a serious filter for huge tanks.

1. It will do both bio and some mechanical, but additional mechanical filtration will be needed.
2. You have to back flush the filter every so often, which uses a lot of water

Realistically, I think you would need at least a 500+ gallon tank to even consider using this. The smallest filter they have is rated for 1,000 gallons. With everything required, you're going to need at least $1K to get this up and running on your tank but the time you get the big pump, Ultima Filter and the additional mechanical filtration. Trust me, I've looked. If you have any more questions, just PM me. I can point you in the right direction to find what you need should you decide to go with this.

VLDesign, A. IMPORTZ, cchhcc, spiff, and STREETLIGHTZ (Ultima 4000 and 2000) all run Ultimas. You could PM them and ask how they like them. Here's a thread on Ultima reviews, with most of the input from people who are not running Ultimas.

I can sum up a very general explanation of how these work. I have a pool filter that works exactly the same way.

Yes this will filter for mechanical and biological.

Normal flow the water comes from the tank to the pump and the pump forces the water through the filter cleaning it and returns back to the tank. The filter media is specifically designed to hold the maxim amount of beneficial bacteria (BB). My pool filter media is just sand and not designed for BB but everything else is the same.

Reverse flow (cleaning) water comes from the tank to the pump and is forced through the filter in revers and exits to a drain not the tank. This back flushes all the mechanical crap from the filter but leaves the BB in tact so there's no ammonia cycle after cleaning.

The system has a pressure gauge the will indicate when the filter is getting full and needs a back flush.

This is a huge canister filter with the back flush option and special media that is designed for this application.

The smallest one available is for 1000 gallons and I think they go up to 10,000 gallons. They are pricy but you get what you pay for and most people with 1000+ systems are not worried about $$$ :)

The system im looking at is 3600 to 4000 Litres, so roughly 900 Gals.
thats pretty much the rating on this hence why i looked into it, i thought it looke defficient, but really need to know, who has a heavy stock here

can this filter handle heavy feeds heavy stocks?
also, how good is it for clarity ?
do you have to replace media regularly or once off?

it is expensive but like you said, you get what you pay for.
the stocking of my tank will cost an excess off $7000 to $10000 NZ dollars, so the initial investment in filtration is really not an issue, this is my dream tank so its gonna be done right or not at all right? lol

its gonna be a massive aro comm, clown loaches, and heavy feeders.

any feedback on bio filtration capacity of this filter?

confused
so this will not make your water clear? but it says mechanical too.
im confused, with the use of filter socks,
how do you use the filter socks?
so you have a sump and you attach this unit to the sump?
i was hoping no sump set up.

Ultima is poor in water clarity for heavily stocked tank. Additional mechanical filter is required. Hollow media requires a lot of water to backwash completely. Incomplete washing will result in dumping of fine particles back into the tank. This filter was originally designed for koi ponds.

KENDRAGON
good to know, so... if its back with clarity, is it ok or good with Bio filtration for a heavy stock tank?
