I have an Ultima II 4000 up and running on my 675. The intake pipe is half way up my tank, kind of like the picture below (thanks JK47 JK47 so letting me steal your picture).

Last week, the PCV line from my tank to the Ultima II broke at a junction, causing about 50% of the tank to spill out onto the floow. Needless to say, I'm trying to prevent this from happening again.

Does anyone have a different method of plumbing the intake pipe so that if there was an issue between the tank and the filter?

Thanks in advance. I was hoping this was going to be a thread about getting my tank up and running, but that will have to wait a bit.

If it is like the picture, drill a small hole in the elbow 1" below water level. This will break the syphon when it drops below. There will still be some water lost but at least not half the tank. During backwash the hole can be plugged.
I did this on my glass bead filter. Not because of flooding issues but to let some air into the pump to backwash with air and water. I tape the hole during normal filter operation. My intake is over the tank and not through.
If your intake is drilled at mid water level, you're screwed.

I think you should just plumb it better so it doesn't break.

Do you know the cause of the break? That would be my bigger concern. PVC should not just break.

Was wondering the same. Can you elaborate M marsh1n ?

I'll be more specific. I was using a Fernco 90 degree coupling. It either was not tightened enough, or came loose. The elbow came apart from the coupling.

This was 100% my own fault, I know that.
