Ultima II mechanical filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How does this filter perform if at all as a mechanical filter? I have heard yes and have heard no. Would like to hear some first hand experience on this filter.
You could buy a lot of filter pads for that price.

Sounds like we need an update brother

Yeah bro! I was considering another overhaul thread. Unique approach on the Ultima's, new walls and finishing in the fish room and adding a 600 gallon. Big summer project.

S specialized002 90% rays and a play tank (330 gallon) for my leichardti arowana and geos.

Is that the only filtration you will be running? What size tank and what kind of bio load?

Yes and no on it being the only filtration. I will be running two each on the larger tanks. Trust me when I say I will put the mechanical to the test.

But those will be the only filters on there? No filter socks or floss, etc...? How have they held up in the past with mechanical filtration?

Here is the plan. I am getting rid of my sumps so no filter floss or socks.

600 gallon
Ultima II 6000 /reeflo hammerhead
Ultima II 1000 /Laguna 2400 (inside tank)
x2 Eheim 2260

500 gallon
Ultima II 2000 /reeflo dart
Ultima II 1000 /Laguna 2400 (inside tann)
x2 FX5

330 gallon
Ultima II 1000 /reeflo snapper
x1 FX5

That's impressive but very expensive, do you really feel like it's worth it? I guess you will run your hobby quite differently but that almost sounds like overkill.
