I'm sure they mean Altamira. Altamira is a location so attaching this to the genus name as in Crenicichla sp. "Altamira", simply describes where the fish were collected which bascially means they have no idea what it is.

My guess is that it will be a saxatiline group pike.

imagine that someone selling a fish and not knowing what it is.

Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin, in the Xingu River at Cachoeira do Espelho and Altamira, Brazil.

they had also called it an orange pike but said it wasnt a xingu 1 that it was a Ultimara. with a U specifically. damn nutty supplier.

If it is bright orange and collected in the Xingu it is almost assuredly a "Xingu I", Orange Pike.

This is another problem, oft times the fish is named after the collection port it is shipped out of. For example, Altamira is a site where all the collected fish are gathered together and then packed and shipped to the US. The fish could have been collected 500 miles from Altimira but since Altimira was it's final destination in Brazil, that's what it is called. You see the same problem with the cities of Belem and Sanatrem. In fact, I've seen orange pikes sold as "Santarem Dwarf Orange Pikes" even though they were collected nowhere near Santarem. It gets frustrating... :irked:

With that said, who knows. You might get something new and different. You'll never know until you order them. How much are they?

every Altamira pike I've gotten from the importers were Xingu I. Orange pike... or should I say orange bombero

he said they'd be $23 each but he'd give me alot better price since im such a good customer :)
