So, I have never heard of this but listen. I did a water change today in my 10 gallon fish tank. Its got a sand substrate a plastic root object and a piece of driftwood. I have a 100V heater in their due to the fact that my old 10 gallon heater couldnt heat the tank worth crap. The 100V heater i always keep it on low considering it works great. So, about 2 hours after i did my water change. My roomate was in my room sittin on my bed. As i told him to look how crystal clear the water is, i turned my ceiling light off and at the same time I flicked ceiling switch he said he saw a SPARK near the top of the tank heater at the water minimum line, and at that same time my fish next to it jumped. I have never heard of this and i REALLY do not want a fire hazard of any sort, so if u have any advice please give some help!

i'm no expert but if you hear and see a hazard. then it is a hazard. unplug your heater asap and then plug it into a serg protector. if you already am get a new serg or a better one. it has something to do with the wireing in the house. I'm not electrion so i can't tell you what. one a side note.. did you try it again to see what would happen?

ya i tried it multiple times again and nothing happened. I dunno, i just turned my heater on low so it is hardly ever on, the room temperature keeps the fish tank about right by itself, the heater turns on just to perfect the temp. But still, i think i should be able to leave it in there, its just kinda weird that something like that would happen. What do u think i should do? I dont have access to any surge protectors at the moment.

unplug the heater now throw out the heater and when you get a new one make sure it is ul listed
