I have about 6- 5" umbees. I know that they are still relatively small but "roughly" (I know it varies) at what size do they start pairing up and at what size can they breed? They are showing no interest to one another right now.

Also, I have some Beani, same questions as for the umbees. thanks

I've heard of umbees pairing up as small as 3.5-4". But umbees seem to be late bloomers:).you should expect pairing now LOL but be patient it'll happen soon enough:) and beani should be 4.5-6" when they pair, and are far more aggressive at that size than umbees. Protect Your females;) got pics?

Hi, My umbees paired at 4 inches.
Can you try putting 2 together away from the others at all?
Just keep changing the fish till u get a pair.

Well i have 6 of them in a 90g. They are all getting along without much problems. Lets hope you guys are right and they pair up soon because it looks like I definitely have at least 2 females and 2 males.

Umbee's are usually bought at 2-3 inches. They pair up at 6-7 inches never heard them pair up at 3.5-4 inches. If they did I dont think their very successful, usually with young fish who breed the mother will eat the fry then the father punishes her.

I thought it was strange...but they are still together.
It worked in my case coz female was 4.5 inches and male was 4inches.

They are now Female = 7 inches & Male = 8 inches and he can tear her fin occassionally but they are still breeding ever 6 to 8 weeks so I'm not gonna disturb them.
Mind you they are in a 1400L to themselves.

With room it helps the female hide if the male becomes a pain.

Good luck with your umbees!
