Hi guys! It's been quite a while since my last post.

Anyways, I am a proud owner of a 16 inch male Umbee. He eats well and has a personality expected of an Umbee - bad ass aggressive! He has very good body form and finnage. What I want to do now is improve his colotation. I saw a breeding pair owned by a friend and the blue in the male was really nice and intense! How can I develop my male to have the same intense blue coloration? Should a female be introduced to get that?

Thank you for your replies!

Typically coloration is determined by genetics, mood (spawning/stress), water quality (the fish's overall health), and lastly diet.

To bring out red/orange/yellows in a fish you can feed a diet that contains Carontenoids (look for astaxanthin in the ingredient list of prepared fish food, and shrimp/krill contain carotene as well)

I have read that if you want to bring out blue in a fish, you can try feeding foods that contain spirulina, which both has nutrional benefits and may increase blue coloration.

I think the main factor is probably genetic, but good luck and post some pics!
