Hi my 16" Umbee is in a hospital tank being treated for hole in the head. I'm on the second dose of general cure and he is now lying on his side still breathing. When I move him with my hand he swims off for a Moment then back to his side. Could he be drowsy or is this a bad sign? What can I do? Thanks

How long have you been treating him, could be the medicine do a wc, and add more oxygen.

3 days. This is second dose of general cure. Slight ammonia spike in hospital Tank I think I will move him back to main tank

Check the ph in both tanks before you place him back in the hospital tank, btw HTH takes time to heal keep your nitrates low with wc's.

Oh is kind of high at 8.2 but he has been living in these conditions for over a year along with a dovii pair. Ammonia and nitrites are 0 and nitrates at 20. I have moved him back into the 500 gallon main tank and am holding him upright while blowing water through his gills. What is the next step? Any more advice? He shows slight signs of wanting to swim then goes back to his side shortly after

My only concern is how will the other cichlids react to him, just be prepared to remove or divide a an area of the aquarium. keep us posted .

Yes I have divided it he keeps changing from pale white to dark. Gills not mixing much and mouth is open. Still makes small movements from time to time. I am continuing to run fresh water though his gills with a power jet

Try to allow Umbee to breathe on its own for a minute, its really stressed out .
