I was recently lucky enough to get a young wild caught Rio Magdalena male. He is currently about 4" and already showing nice freckling and some spangling in the body and beautiful long trailers. He is doing some growing in a 55 now before he moves into a his own 300. Just curious as to what a good growing ration would be? He is getting 50% water changes every week and is eating nls twice a day with blood worms in the evening and on nights I my Elongated and Diamond black I give him some of what they get either smelt, raw shrimp, tilapia, or night crawlers. Does this sound good or is there something I should be adding or getting rid of? Thanks in advance for your replies B-)

If you are wanting faster growth, just stay with NLS twice a day during the week and maybe on the weekends maybe a treat and then bump your water changes to twice a week.

I would not consider myself an expert though. Just my $0.02

Clean water, clean water, clean water:) clean food without overfeeding. Low stress environment. and lots of water changes. Any of the top brand food will work. On my umbee tank I change 20% 3 days and 40% 1 time weekly and in two months theyve went from 4.5" to 6.5" for my male. Theyre on a 400 gallon system. I prefer changing smaller amounts of water more frequent vs large changes and my fish seem to love it and grow like weeds. If hes solo I may suggest adding a submissive cichlid to make competition for food but thats only if the umbee will allow it. Enjoy cause umbees are awesome fish.
