I've got an 8in. female umbee, whose stomach has turned a whitish color because of the eggs in her stomach BUT SHE HAS NO MALE

is she in any danger of getting eggbound???

PLZ DISREGUARD THE FOLLOWING IF YOU ARE NOT INTO HYBRIDIZING:

can she cross with a dovii or anything else

I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE A PROFIT OFF OF ANY HYBRIDS I JUST SIMPLY LIKE TO OBSERVE CICHLIDS IN BREEDING AND CAN'T AFFORD A 10-12IN. MALE UMBEE

ANY HYBRIDIZED FRY WILL BE QUICKLY CULLED OFF

She can lay eggs regardless of having a mate. My 6" jag does it consistently.

as said above ^^^ Hawkfish3.0 has a point that mostly all female cichlids will lay eggs out of nowhere since its just from their hormones needing to be release...i guess but the fact is most just lay it even without a male...so don't get carried away and think you'll have babies coming soon if your female lays eggs...since no male has fertilized them.As for a Umbee x Dovii....im not so sure they can breed or not but it would be definitely be an awesome sight seeing a more far larger and more aggresive than the lethargic parents which bred. No doubt about it lol

oh yea sorry for the extra posting but if you do wish to find a male umbee at those size try saving up or just wait around as you may be lucky and find out with an afforable price at your wishing limitations

They grow pretty quick, right? You might as well get a small one and grow it out if you really want to breed them.

yup he could just sell the female or trade someone for a batch of lil ones around 1-2" or if you can...a batch of 2-4" but PMK was selling some 4-6"er i think...you should ask him if he still gots them for sale and if you don't want to sell your female umbee then keep it and get some smaller ones from PMK If he gots them still. And yes they do grow quick....i believe their the fastest growing cichlid in the world...but from fish to fish....

If you were ever able to get a male and breed them, make sure you do it through a divider, the male often kills the female.

yup so true right their...as the males get pretty hardcore aggressive towards its female when having sex :ROFL:end in a raped female in the end so its a dead female
