Umbee Growth Rate

My friend and I recently found an Umbee for sale at 3" at our local fish store. They said that they never had Umbee in the store before over the past ~10 years and 2 of the 3 were already sold. We are in the process of setting up his 125 for it to grow out in, knowing that it will outgrow a 125 sooner or later by itself.

I was just wondering what the growth rate for these fish are... How long will it be ok in the 125 given that it's a male (~24" max), which we found out is very difficult to acquire.

Any other pointers that's good to know about these bruisers is greatly appreciated as well.

I'll also keep track of it's growth and document this for everyone, especially when the 125 is up and running, which I may also document.

ouch...thats hard...im not and umbee expert or king.. probally at 7month upgrade to a 180.. ...idk

My male went from 3" to 12" in under a year. 125 you've got two years max before you need to upgrade.

A 125 will be good for about a year or so depending on how well you care for it. You can expect it to be anywhere from 9 to 11" by that time.

Honestly, I feel like a 240 is hardly enough for my 17" male and a 12" female. They're just too active and seem to need much more space, as they are busy swimmers as oppose to other big cichlids that tend to just sit around in specific areas and defend those spots.

I purchased one @3" last august it's 11" now. 8" in 6 months I need a new tank lol.

I purchased a Blue Gorillus Umbee from Umbeeking just a couple of months ago and his growth rate has easily been a little over an inch a month.

I've been getting 1" per month on my umbees. Males will probably go more than 1"+ per month.
