Hey Guys, I purchased a couple umbee's about 2 months ago and they are doing very well. There is one in particular thats growing twice as fast as the rest. If any one can take a shot on the sex of the umbee that would be great. I personal hope it turns to be a male. Its very aggressive and runs the show in my grow out tank right now.

Its not showing any color yet and looks to be around 3" right?? with the distance between the spot on caudal fin and center spot im saying male, but its too early really and its not showing enough for me to be sure. the distance thing i use for umbees determines the roundness of the fish, females being slightly rounder than males, this one looks lil more elongated and more like my male growouts. but like i said cant be 100% without seeing the whole group in actiona and being able to compare this one to the others. Just makes it easier sometimes for me:) post again in a month and i will be able to give you a better shot.

I was hoping you were going to respond...u seem to be the expert on umbee's and yes it is about 3 inches or so. I have been doing my research and reading threads of other peopls growouts for umbees and i caught the elongated body of the males as well. Also i have used this thread for reference and its helped with the process.

All the other ones look like they are more rounder and are like at the 2 inch mark. I will defiantly post back in a month and let you take a shot again. Thanks for the quick reply :)

Well the guy who posted his comparisons in that thread is on the right track, Dominant males will show at sizes as early as 3" same with dominant females but wont be ready to spawn untill 3.5-4" That thread doesnt mean its 100% accurate as far as the female goes, but if you take another look youll see the male has tiny pearling along his back and dorsal whereas the female does not. the females will definitely take a while before showing nice blues, more so yellows than anything. the dominant males will have a better shine and color than the rest of the group immediately. if you have extra room pull out the dominant male in a week and put in different tank preferably divided, then when your have one you think is female or the next dominant male place them on other side of the divider from the first male and within a couple weeks they will both be eating like hogs and coloring up like crazy also allowing the others in the group to get some more size on toe better sex them.

65% sure that it is a male..Will have to see more progress pics. but here's a thread of my umbees for reference when they were around your size http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?348618-F0-Umbee.-Progress-Pics.&highlight= Both of them turn out to be males.

Wow bro i was wondering where that thread went!! i cant believe how far ive come with understanding umbees:) now just from my expirience and if i was to be looking at those pics for the first time i would definitely say both males:) but thats not fair now since we all know what they are lol Plus your umbees are and look completely different than what everyone else has or will have for a while.

@ Sarkis

Since the umbee guys are already in here you mind if I add a pic of mine for possible identification as well?

Thats a good idea....i will make some room and split the tank and see what happens...i will see what kind of space i can find tomorrow. Thanks for the valuable info...

Thanks. The only high quality pics I have were the ones I posted after my fish got sick but I like this one even if it isn't the greatest.
