Wondering if I can use the skills of people on this forum to assist me with sex of my umbee.
I had a chance to import from the top of Australia down to where I reside 6 umbee fry.
I have grown them out to have the last survivor systematically pick off the rest.
This particular fish was the largest in the group and was always super dominant.

Umbee are rare where I live and I don’t know of anyone within 1000km with one.

I tried to take some pics that may assist
Umbee is approx 4-4.5 inches long.
This mag be too early to tell but any insight would help.
Thanks

Female, I've had females grow quicker than males, if that helps....
Thanks mate.
I’ve been leaning towards female also.
Now I hope to try find some sort of tank compatible fish to go with it.
If it is indeed a female I wonder what the chances of getting a larger male jag to co-exist.

Welcome aboard

Have you tried the mirror up against the glass trick. To see what colour it goes. Blue or yellow. Worth a try if you haven't already.

So I have tried that but better still my local fish shop had Red Devils of same size super cheap almost giving them away.
I got 5 to act like dithers to encourage eating.
The umbee has spent all night chasing them and goes very dark in the top half of face and then most of its body gets dark.
This fish is super aggressive
I’m not sure the Red Devils will even work

The dark colouration in face and body will be due to stress. Its not liking sharing it's tank with other cichlids.
The mirror method works best when the fish is happy and settled alone. Then when it sees another Umbee in the mirror it should start showing off, and the true colours will come out .
