Here a question for any Umbee owners. Can an Umbee kept in a community tank?

Heres the deal; I hope to acquire a 210g tank this weekend. I have a 8.5" male midas, 5 red hook silver dollars and a small type sailfin pleco that all reside in my 120g. These will go in the 210. The midas is not super aggressive, but has not been kept with other cichlids. I recently saw an Umbee and thought it might be an interesting fish for my new tank. Do you think it might work?

Just a little bit more...

Yes I know the potential size for an Umbee. The only real info I have on them has been from web sites that say "NO they can not be kept with any thing!", is this really the case? Even if raised together with tankmates from a smaller size?

My experience with umbees is that they don't get super aggressive until they reach larger sizes. I've kept 6" umbees in community tanks with little problems but once that sucker reaches 10"+ it will start to dominate. GL Umbees are a great fish, I would definitely go for it

If its a nice male I would pick it up:) if u do get it, try to introduce all. Of them at the same time to the new tank. Worse case scenario with both tanks you can put him by himself in other tank.

I personally know of an umbee that decided to kill off most of it's tankmates in a 1000 gallon tank over the span of a week. In Seattle actually.

But I'm in Tacoma... in a nice neighborhood...

Its pretty much as I read in most reports about the fish. They are pretty bad *** when they get big. I dont think it would work out. I would probably get my Midas killed off and that would be a sad thing for me.

that probably wont work after the umbee starts to mature a bit . the midas will claim part of the tank but the problem is that the umbee is an open water swimmer and will swim through the whole tank and wont care about the midas. a male umbee is not fighting for territory ,he is fighting because the midas wants to fight and because he wants to swim and the midas is in the way . i have kept nicer temperament females with other cichlids ,goodluck ...
