umbee owners have a look..

This is an F1 umbee I got from Oliver Lucanus early this year. It's pushing 6"+ now. I still can't say for certain if it's male/female. It has characteristics of both. Here's a few shots (I am terrible without flash, but I wanted to include this one to give a better idea of it's natural color). Also, the trailers aren't showing up well in these, they reach the very back of the tail fin.

Any umbee experts care to take a guess here?

I wanna say male...but my huge female I have now had all male characteristics until it hit 8".

my jack dempsey looks just like that, I'm not so sure it's a jack now

looks like a male to me...but can't be certain about it yet...iono but only thing that made me think male is the beefy body and the many speckles is it carrying on its gill plate

Anything's possible. If you have a fish that looks exactly like that, congrats! I just started a new thread containing updated shots of my male umbee in the 'photo lounge' forum if you want to compare your 'Jack Dempsey' again .
