Umbee raised to old age in a 150g by RHC

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mr.GuapoteMel got a lot of tank space and had Umbees long before . How old were his dying Umbees? Does anyone know or did he ever say? Just asking.

I think a loved healthy in shape good diet fish can live a lil longer than a neglected and poor diet fish

With Skips Umbee as a learning experience, I think an Umbee can reach a few more years longer if anyone can care better. just a guess..

We are open land predators too. but those guys in the jail cell live long an healthy. Only their minds are tormented.

The only life span i have seen for a umbee says 8-10 years. Any other keepers with old umbee. If so how old are they.

I tend to believe that overfeeding and resulting fatty deposits likely play a larger role in premature fish death than undersized tanks.

Me too

Im a newbie so this is the oldest living Umbee I have ever seen.

Owner of this Umbee always says: "Documentation beats yapyapyap all year round"

Pablo was 15 or 16 years old ... I know he was a dovii, but I'd expect umbee to reach a similar span.

I think I remember Mel saying his old pair were 12 years old when he lost them, but I'm not 100% (I could be confusing that age with someone else or a different pair). I'm looking through his old videos to see if he mentioned it.

Mel's umbees didn't die of old age, their tank was wiped out by a flesh eating bacteria introduced by a Texas cichlid that was the some survivor. I believe they were 5 years or so.

The life span of a dovii has nothing to do with the life span of a umbee. Just because they reach close to the same size doesnt mean they have the same life span there are to many factors that determine life span to say they should be the same. They are from different family groups ,different water composition one being SA and the other CA, different diets what u eat factors heavily on life span. For the record i will state again only life span ifo i have found for umbee says 8-10 years for dovii it says 15.

Really? It's pure coinicidence that that similar sized cichlids from SA, CA, and West African all have similar life spans despite the wildly different family groups, different water parameters, and diet? Hmmmmmm.

Also, Umbees haven't not been kept as long in the hobby as have dovii ... I'm not surprised you'd not find one living that long in the hobby yet.
