So, I just stumbled upon the wonderful world of the umbee cichlid. I was wondering if it would be ok to add an umbee at a small size to this tank to grow up with the already large ones? I heard they are extremely aggressive.

If it's a no, I will just add my female Jaguar who is housed with my red terror and midas already.

I'm stocking a 240, and my initial stock is going to be the following:

Cichlids

Male Midas (not aggressive)
Male Red Terror (not aggressive)

Bichirs

3 senegal bichirs
2 palmas bichirs
1 ornate bichir

Plecos

2 red tail leopards (2")
1 green phantom
1 para
1 whiptail
3 royal

Other:

11 tinfoil barbs (2")

My experience with any cichlid no matter how aggressive is that in a big enough they don't hurt plecos, a chase maybe that's all.

Don't know about bichirs as I have no experience with them.

I suppose if you add it small you can always try it, and watch how it's aggression develops, that's why I like buying my fish small. There is also no problem adding them when they're small.

If it was just the Midas and Red Teror and some plecos I'd say go for it and carefully watch how he develops, but you are really pushing with the bioload.

Still I voted yes.

Oh trust me, I am going to have the filtration of a JDM tank! :grinno:

just watch out for aggresion those are some really aggresive fish.. Just have a spare tank ready midas grow really fast and can turn on the other fish..... you may think they are not aggresive but wait till they hit +10''....

My midas is already at 10" and doesn't bother a thing.. He's always been kept with other fish that are supposedly "aggressive" as well.

My friend has his father, who is HUGE!! and he's not aggressive either, and has a massive nauchal hump.

My senegal bichirs are more aggressive than him. haha.

Aggressive senegal bichirs? Lol

that's my point... senegal bichirs are not aggressive.

The midas is less aggressive than they are.. he lets me pet him..

I love Umbees:)!! I voted yes then i read your post. umbees are a must have but i dont it will work out in a 240 with tankmates unless you raised them all and even then once they get 10-12" the most youll be able to keep in a 240 is a pair of umbees. possibly it could work with just a male, but from my expirience the umbees get more aggressive as they get bigger and they like room to swim. defiitely a fish to keep though;)

I've decided nay on the Umbee. Gonna give it a go with a Bartoni Cichlid.
